About the Summertime Blues Festival 2022 at Maffeo Sutton Park in Downtown Nanaimo:
After two years of Covid cancellations Nanaimo’s Summertime Blues Festival is back with 28 blues acts, 2 epic after-jam parties and four days of blues music featuring local, national and international blues artists. There is blues for everyone – from R&B, boogie-woogie, blues-rock, to Chicago blues, jump blues, soul & gospel and so much more. Enjoy and dance to the blues in Nanaimo’s scenic Inner Harbour and feel the oceanside breeze and good island vibes!
This year’s blues artists include Anthony Gomes, Crystal Shawanda, Jenie Thai, Jimmy D. Lane, Jim Byrnes, Angel Forrest & Denis Columbus, David Gogo, Brandon Issak, BMW w/ Big Dave McLean, David Vest and Jeff Plankenhorn and an amazing line-up of regional and local blues musicians. Summertime Blues 2022 is bringing a couple of new additions. On Saturday August 12 there is the New Blues Showcase which introduces emerging blues players on the local scene. The 2022 Summertime New Blues artist is 12 year-old James Vickers and he is backed by a talented roster of young blues players. Then on Sunday, experience the soul & gospel hour for some spiritual medicine.
Gates open at 3 pm on Thursday Aug. 11 and noon each day from Friday Aug 12 - Sunday Aug. 14. Festival runs until 10 pm nightly. After-festival blues jams start at 9:30 pm on Friday & Saturday night at The Queens!
Food trucks, vendors and refreshments are on site. Festival goers are welcome to bring their chair or rent one on site. Come celebrate summer, dance with the blues community and remember the blues makes you feel so good!
